Bluegrass Death Doula believes that education is key to promoting compassionate and effective end-of-life care. BGDD offers a variety of public and private classes and workshops on a wide range of topics related to death and dying. Classes are led by Lauren Hunter-Smith who is dedicated to providing a supportive and informative environment. Whether you're looking to deepen your knowledge of end-of-life care or simply want to learn more about planning for your own death, BGDD has a class that's right for you.

Ghost Post
Living Arts and Science Center

The Ghost Post was developed to give people the opportunity for one last exchange with their loved ones who have passed on. Participants wrote letters and posted them at the Ghost Post Box. The letters were collected and cremated for a symbolic delivery via "air mail" at the close of the Day of the Dead Festival. Stay tuned for information regarding the 2024 Ghost Post.

ACDs for LGBTQIA+ People

Advance Care Directives are important for everyone but even more so when relationships and trusted family members fall outside of conventional legal definitions. This workshop focused on creating specially tailored ACDs to ensure legal protection to members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Community Ofrenda

The Community Ofrenda was created to give people the opportunity to add their loved ones to a non-traditional Day of the Dead Ofrenda with minimal effort. Photos were collected via email then pasted to jars which were hung in a tree in the Old Episcopal Cemetery. The jars were illuminated with LED candles throughout the evening.
